Hi Renae, like you I have lost scissors at airport security and almost cried as they were very precious. When planning a trip to the US, I researched what i could and couldn't take on board the plan to ensure that firstly I didn't lose anything and second, wasn't taken into custody as a potential terrorist due to my crochet hooks!
ReplyDeleteI found that hooks and needles are allowed but no 'cutting' devices like scissors or blades (pocket knives, no matter how small still don't make it through - sniff!)
What I did find was a round thread cutter made for sewing thread, works just as well and is accepted through security (it has to be the round version as the the other kinds are viewed as blades and it will be confiscated) It isn't the cleanest of cuts like a scissor cut but it is better than using your teeth or try to saw away with the plastic knives they give you for your meals on board. My one doesn't have a brand on it but I bought it at Spotty's (it's plastic with 7 small nicks around the circumference of the circle that expose the 'blade' with a loop at the top to hang or hook). A quick Google found several different brands, Clover among them. My plastic one was inexpensive, around $5 and works a treat!
