A day to be

Sunday in the hausfrau household is family day, and also 'no-screens Sunday'. No TV, DVDs, computers or (if we had them) those hand-held game thingos. This goes for mama, dada and both the squidgets. If we can, we also try not to do any chores or boring household business and just hang-out together.

For a mama that spends a large chunk of her life on-line running this blog, facebooking, tweeting and not to mention the yarn store it is a welcome reprieve. But I do have to work on it, the switch off that is - electronically and mentally, and just be for a day.

So last Sunday we were just 'being' at the Canberra Airport Open day for a bit - enjoying the vintage planes, the mad-bugger doing aeronautical acrobats and hanging out together...it was nice.

Introducing Holst Garn Coast - wool/cotton yarn

To say that I am beyond excited about this yarn is an understatement...and judging by the response already, Coast is going to become another favourite.

My customers love all of my Holst Garn. The colours, the weight, the feel of it and even "the smell (all sheepy-yum)". So without further ado, I present to you all the way from Denmark, Holst Garn Coast .

A lace weight/2-ply made with 55% merino wool and 45% cotton. Like the other Holst Garns it comes unwashed, and you can even smell some of the spinning oil on it at times. This just adds to its beauty, and when you wash your finished project it transforms into a soft, cuddly and luxurious garment.

Here are some of my favourite colours...more over here .

Brown paper packages

IMGP0235

brown paper packages tied up with string, these are a few of my favourite things...
One of my delightful customers reminded me of this when she emailed to say how much she loved her yarn, and it seems the wrapping.

I think wrapping makes anything more special, don't you?

Style me up

I wasn't feeling so great yesterday, this head cold finally got the better of me. So in between packing orders, and following up on new stock due to arrive I finished reading this fantastic book that arrived last Friday. It is well written, informative and oh so inspirational! Hélene's blog, Tartlette is one of those uber-food blogs that never ceases to amaze me, and is always top of my reading list.

So feeling inspired, I figured there was no time like the present, hey I had an open jar of Brandied Cherries that I made a couple of months ago....and even some chocolate ice-cream at the ready. No fresh cherries unfortunately to help my styling, but that didn't stop me.

I have to say this food photography/styling thing is really hard, so much to think of - props, telling a story, lighting, depth of field...and the list goes on. I still have a lot to learn. But it is fun, fun, fun - and complements perfectly a little project that I've been working on.

Have a great day,
suzy xoxo

Cherub Cheeks Beanie

On Saturday I spent another wonderful afternoon crafting with friends in the shade of a beautiful golden elm tree...this time to celebrate the impending arrival of a new little person. Food was shared and gifts were given - there is a lot of handmade goodness waiting for this little bub to arrive.

Part of my gift included this little beanie made with the sublime BC Garn Semilla Grosso, 100% organic wool.

Details of project are over here on Ravelry.

Have a great day,
suzy xoxo

Another day, another lifeline

I finally worked up the courage to fix up THIS knitting disaster over the weekend. I couldn't bear to knit the whole garment with a smaller moss-stitch border, so I decided to insert another lifeline and reknit the moss-stitch border - upside down. Because what I wanted to fix was at the cast on edge, I went for broke and I can tell you that ripping and cutting into your project is not for the feint-hearted!

I'm delighted with the result, the project is back on track...and only you and I will be able to tell that the moss-stitch is upside down on the back. ;)

If you want a reminder on how I insert a lifeline, read THIS blog post.

Happy days,
suzy xoxo

My creative space

Working on our baby's big girl room. Mama's turning this red gingham into a cheery set of curtains...and dada is whittling away and making the all important big girl bed.

This little guy is making sure that we are getting it just right.
